What is an Electrical Portable Appliance ?

Any appliance which needs testing is anything with a plug attached to it. It should also be portable. A Personal Computer for example, has a monitor, power lead, speakers and maybe an multi-socket extension to test. Other examples include Kettles, Irons, Leads, Extension Cables, Treadmills and Printers. Fridges and washing machines are also considered to be portable.

Is PAT testing a Legal Requirement ?

The Electricity at Work Regulations requires that employers maintain their “electrical systems” at work to prevent any danger to anyone. This is a legal requirement.

How Often Does my Equipment Need Tested ?

Most electrical appliances require a combined formal visual test and inspection every 12 months however, depending on the frequency of use and the environment it is in this could be 3, 6 or 24 months. During our free site visit we will advise you on the most appropriate frequency for testing your appliances.
